The establishment of native offices has historical significance in the region due to the conflict experienced after the arrival of , European settlers in the 1870s. The types and diversity of workers dependent on emerging industries have great historical and social significance for the Cairns region. This in turn greatly affected the population of the Cairns area - initially Melanesian and Chinese labor moved in and southern Europeans, especially Italians, later moved into industry. allies during the war in the Pacific.
