 courses in Cairns
Natural resources such as gold and tin and natural resources such as timber have historically played an important role in the development of the region as they provided the impetus for the establishment of Cairns Harbour. Another very important industry in the region is tourism which has led to the development of transport and commercial infrastructure throughout the study area . Railway provision played an important role in the development of the region, including the heavy construction of the Running Line in 1886 and the linking of the railway north and south of in 192 , which later connected Cairns to Brisbane. A large number of American troops were stationed in the region during those years, but there is now little physical evidence of those years of unrest. The remote location of the city depended on the port and also led to the development of railways, trams, roads and later an airport, taking into account the growing need to transport goods, equipment and people to the development area. Encouraged by the Queensland Government, tourists were attracted to the area, especially in the 20th century, and this led to the development of another very influential industry in Cairns. The Cairns area has historical and social significance for the influx of many different types of migrants who settled in the area largely due to the original mineral resources and later industrial development. The establishment of native offices has historical significance in the region due to the conflict experienced after the arrival of , European settlers in the 1870s. Timber was one of the earliest industries in Far North Queensland, timber being felled in the early 1870s, before Cairns itself was established. .
