Cairns is located on a narrow coastal plain surrounded mostly by mountain ranges. The most successful and dominant of them is the sugar industry, which had a very important impact on the development of the region, the attractiveness of the region and the changed aspect of the landscape. The establishment of native offices has historical significance in the region due to the conflict experienced after the arrival of , European settlers in the 1870s. Tourism has given Cairns further economic growth and stability. airns was established in 1876 to serve the gold mines of Far North Queensland, providing port number with freight to and from the region. Encouraged by the Queensland Government, tourists were attracted to the area, especially in the 20th century, and this led to the development of another very influential industry in Cairns. The initial result was the construction of road through the interior of Kuranda, which provides an evacuation route and access to the bases and infrastructure located there. Buildings and areas in and around Cairns were used for various military purposes and the proximity of the conflict caused the evacuation of many local residents to the south. How is that important? The City of Cairns (City of Cairns) and the Cairns District are of historical, technical and social importance to the State of Queensland. Railway provision played an important role in the development of the region, including the heavy construction of the Running Line in 1886 and the linking of the railway north and south of in 192 , which later connected Cairns to Brisbane.
